History of the Hierophant Card
Traditionally entitled 'the Pope,' the Hierophant isn't just a religious figure. When Tarot was first invented, the papacy also ruled a large portion of central Italy. Thus, the pope wasn't just seen as a spiritual leader, but also a leader of politics and military. While times have changed, this card is meant to symbolize both knowledge and power. It can symbolize any spiritual and strong leader.
