History of the Lovers Card
The meaning of the Lovers card hasn't changed greatly throughout history. The two figures depicted (traditionally a man and a woman) are sometimes referred to as 'The Twins,' a nod to the card's ruling astrological sign: Gemini. In another, a man is shown making a choice between a woman who loves him and one who doesn't. The meaning here? Sometimes the Lovers isn't just about choices: It's a yearning for something we cannot have.
